High energy morning boost protein smoothie

Gligor's note: I call this smoothie the 'High Energy Morning Boost' as it provides that extra zing in the morning when I wake up at 5.30am to go get ready for the day ahead. I love that it gives enough sustenance for quite some time so I don't get hungry by the time I get to work (which used to happen before), and at the same time it is full of fibre and also tastes really nice!

 

Ingredients

  • Two blocks of weetbix
  • One banana
  • One teaspoon of cinnamon
  • One serving of Balance Ultra Ripped Protein (chocolate)
  • One teaspoon of unsalted peanut butter (this ingredient is optional, I sometimes have it and sometimes not depending on mood)
  • 250-350ml of Trim Milk (depending on how dense a smoothie you like)

 

Directions

  1. Place all the ingredients in your blender.
  2. Blend!
  3. Enjoy your fantastic smoothie.

My son was part of New Zealand’s National American Football Team ‘Haka’ and during intensive training, didn’t want heavy food in his stomach but needed energy. I make my own yoghurt (but any unsweetened yoghurt will do) and we devised a drink, similar to the one above. 1 large banana, 3/4 cup yoghurt, 2 cups good quality pure orange juice (not squash) 1tbs honey. This is a great alternative for people who are wheat intolerant or gluten free. Whisk or blend together. Joe would drink half before training and half, 3 hours later, when they had a break.
