Jean-Claude Van Damme, a well renowned an inspiring Belgian martial artist, actor and director. Known for his martial arts films, Van Damme has inspired many through his struggles, achievements and experience he has to share. Here are some of his amazing words of wisdom to help keep you motivated.

“You know, I looked at my face in the mirror this morning, and I like being old. My face has more content and when I train in the gym now, I am not training to be strong or handsome – just better than I was yesterday. These days the race is just against myself.”

“God gave me a great body and it’s my duty to take care of my physical temple.”

“You can create the perfect triceps by just pushing yourself off your wall.”

“I love challenges. If you don’t have any and can do whatever you want. Then it’s probably time to die.”

“I’m fast, why? Because I eat vegetables.”

“You have to have a dream, the passion to make it, to make it, to really, really make it.”

“I don’t have a bad relationship. I’m 48 years old. I think life is too short for that. To me, life is ... you open the shutters, you see the dogs outside, you look left, you look right, in, what a second and a half? And that’s a life.”

“But on average, I go to the gym about four or five times a week. Today, I’m so experienced in training – I’m actually listening to my body now. My body needs freedom. When I train I create serenity and I produce oxygen in my blood. It helps me to think better and relax. By training, you accentuate the problem.”

“My last fight was more than 20 years ago. I’m not a fighter, I’m a lover. If somebody’s going to speak bad about me, I will walk away. But if a guy like Steven Seagal slaps me once, I will slap him twice as hard. Life is full of violence.”

“Air is beautiful, yet you cannot see it. It’s soft, yet you cannot touch it. Air is a little like my brain.”

“A cookie has no soul, it’s just a cookie. But before it was milk and eggs. And in eggs there’s the potential for life.”

“I’m one of the most sensitive human beings on Earth – and I know it.”

“An action hero has to be always in shape mentally and physically. People, sometimes they believe Sly, Arnold, myself, we're athletes, you cannot make mistakes. But Hollywood forgives, I guess.”

“I love playing the villain, but a villain with class.”

“I see dogs on the street, and I adopt them. I took seven dogs from Thailand, and a few of them are paralyzed. One has three paws instead of four. One is limping, so we bought him a wheelchair. I spent my own money to fly them back by private jet. In commercial, they can have heart attacks because of stress - it's dark and icy cold. I love animals. I have nine dogs and a kitty. My biggest orgasm - not in a sexual way - is to walk with my dogs on the beach. In Belgium we have these wide sidewalks. You feel like you're on the Planet Moon, and I can make them feel like movie stars.”

“Life is short. I'm 47 years old. I've got 10 years to go where I can be the best I can be. I want those 10 years to be precious, not like before, cranking two or three movies a year. I've made a ton of movies in my life, but so what?”

“Believe me - I've done very good stuff and very crazy stuff, and I don't regret the crazy stuff.”

“Because no matter what you say in life, the truth will always be the truth. You know when someone is telling the truth, you look in the eyes. I have a tendency to believe people.”

“What is a movie star? It is an illusion. It was everything I ever wanted to be, but it became a kind of shell, non? It was what made me famous and got me women. But it wasn't real.”
