Amino Acids help prevent the breakdown of muscle tissue during exercise. They help to build muscle, repair tissue and aid growth in the body.
So what are Amino Acids?
Put simply, they are the building blocks of protein. Non-Essential Amino Acids are produced by the body, and Essential Amino Acids are those that cannot be synthesized by the body, so must be obtained by our diet. Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine are three Essential Amino Acids that are oxidized for energy during exercise, helping to build muscle. These Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) should be supplemented by anyone who weight trains to help support muscle growth, and ensure that their muscle isn’t broken down and used as energy during vigorous exercise. The benefits of amino acids don’t end there. BCAAs also help reduce muscle fatigue and soreness after exercise, improving recovery.
